Beyond the Cap is Scholar Career Coaching’s workforce development program designed to help alumni and first generation college students gain hands on professional experience while pursuing their college education.
Through career development, employer connections, professional networking, and access to paid micro internship opportunities, Scholars can strengthen their skills, build their resumes, expand their professional networks, and gain real world experience before graduation.

Beyond the Cap is currently open to students who:
Applications are reviewed based on eligibility, program capacity, and available opportunities.
Selected students will have the opportunity to complete paid, 15 hour micro-internship projects, earning $300 per completed project.
Participants may complete up to three projects during the program. If additional funding or opportunities become available, students may be eligible to complete up to five projects.
All participants are expected to:
‘Career Coaching’ and additional guidance will also be available for students who would like extra support throughout the program. Students can receive assistance with updating or creating a new Resume and LinkedIn profile.

2. Selected Scholars will be invited participate in paid paid micro-internships career opportunities.
3. Apply for paid micro internship opportunities of interest and gain hands on professional experience.
4. Use your experience to strengthen your resume, expand your network, establish relationships, and prepare for future career opportunities.
1. What employers could I work with?
Participating Beyond the Cap organizations include established businesses, growing nonprofits, and social impact organizations. Preference is given to Florida-based entities.
2. What students are allowed to participate?
Beyond the Cap will be open to any of the following:
First-generation college students who did not previously participate in Scholar CC programs must reside in Florida to apply.

4. What is the pay?
Thanks to our generous program sponsors, this program funds up to three 15-hour projects. Students will receive $300 per 15-hour project.
The student receives their payment from our partner, Parker Dewey, upon completion of each project through funding provided by the program sponsors.

Beyond the Cap connects participating employers with current college students through short-term, paid professional projects that are fully funded by foundation and corporate social impact partners.
Partner with Scholar CC as a Career Experience Partner to provide college students with meaningful, project based professional experiences while connecting with emerging talent.
Career Experience Partners can host paid micro internships, share real world projects, and connect with motivated students preparing to enter the workforce. There is no cost to participate, and partners may participate from anywhere in the United States. Projects can be remote or local if in Palm Beach County and Broward County.
Partners may also consider Scholars for longer term internships or future employment opportunities.

3. What is the cost?
Thanks to our generous program sponsors, this program funds up to three 15-hour projects for participating employers. Students successfully completing the project will receive $300 per 15-hour project, at no-cost to the host organization.
The no cost projects will be available until the current funding is depleted or renewed.
The student receives their payment from our partner, Parker Dewey, upon completion of your project through funding provided by the program sponsors.
4.Who manages the micro-interns?
The best Micro-Internships do not require hands-on management to be completed. Beyond the Cap students have core skills and are highly motivated to exceed expectations.
During the Micro-Internship, the project manager—whether a hiring manager, team lead, or another employee—can engage the student however is best including email, Zoom, etc.
5. Are micro-interships on-site or remote?
Micro-Internships can be either on-site or virtual, depending on the specific requirements of the project. We typically suggest remote, as this provides more flexibility and accessibility.
6. What if I want to engage my intern in more than three projects?
Currently, up to three projects are funded through the program. If you would like to engage a student in additional projects, please contact info@scholarcc.org to discuss project costs and payment options.
7. Can I hire the intern after completing a project?
Absolutely! Career Experience Partners are encouraged to consider students for internships or employment opportunities when there is a good fit.
You may hire the student directly at no cost to your organization, with no conversion or placement fee. Your organization would manage its standard hiring process directly with the student.
If you hire a Beyond the Cap student, please let us know so we can celebrate the student’s success! While there is no fee to hire a student, donations to help Scholar Career Coaching continue providing these opportunities are always appreciated.
8. What are the legal/administrative implications of Micro-Interships?
In short, it’s easy because our partner, Parker Dewey handles it all. No HR burdens. No conversion fees. No questions about ownership or worries about confidentiality.
Employment: Micro-Interns are not your employees, contractors, interns, temps, or freelancers. Similar to working with a consulting firm or any other service provider, you are engaging Parker Dewey LLC to complete the assignment, and each individual you select is a contractor or employee of Parker Dewey. You can still directly interact with them as much or little as you would like, and always have the opportunity to hire them directly without any costs or fees.
Liability: We’re mission-driven and believe in the power of creating opportunities. That said, we take on all the liability. Not happy with the work product? We’ll give you a full refund or find an alternate Career Launcher.
Work Product: All work product is owned by you.
Confidentiality: While most projects involve public-facing information of a non-sensitive nature, both Parker Dewey and all Career Launchers sign strict NDAs to protect your information. In addition to the standard provisions, the students understand that any violation of these agreements would risk opportunities for future employment or could be a violation of their school’s honor code.
Background Checks: Given the short-term nature and structure of these assignments, we do not conduct background checks. While companies are always welcome to conduct a background check directly, the nature of the specific assignments and lack of a direct relationship with the individual who is selected has caused most organizations to defer the background check until after a Micro-Internship is completed and a student is offered a traditional internship or full-time role.
